Services from the Studio Bench

Six overlays, one aligned identity

Andrew Beesley Design LLC builds logos, packaging and print systems for local makers and growing teams from its Provo studio. Each service below is a layer on the paste-up bench, and each one is prepared to align with the others from day one.

Logo and Identity Systems

The identity system is the base sheet of every paste-up, and it sets the grid for everything that follows. We begin with the mark itself: a considered, reproducible symbol or wordmark that reads at the size of a button and at the size of a building. From there we build a complete family of lockups, including a primary horizontal arrangement, a stacked arrangement for narrow spaces, a compact monogram for labels and a favicon-ready reduction for digital use.

A mark alone is not a system. We define clear-space rules, minimum size limits, a color ladder that includes one-color and reversed use, and a type pairing with weighted alternatives so the identity survives when a printer cannot match a stock or a screen cannot render a subtle tone. Every element is measured against the same baseline so the lockups rotate, scale and stack without drifting.

  • Primary mark, stacked lockup and monogram
  • Clear-space and minimum-size rules
  • One-color, two-color and reversed color ladders
  • Vector masters with outlined and live type versions

Packaging Design

Packaging is where a brand meets a hand, a shelf and a shipping box. We design wrap labels, pressure-sensitive stickers, folding cartons, sleeves and pouches with the dieline as a first-class part of the artwork. That means the fold lines, glue tabs and fill zones shape the layout rather than fighting it, and the copy that matters most lands on the face that buyers actually see.

We set nutrition panels, ingredient lists, batch codes, barcodes and recyclable callouts directly into the system so nothing is bolted on in a hurry before a print run. Because packaging often changes faster than a brand does, we build the label as an overlay: a fixed identity layer and a changeable product layer. New flavors, new sizes and new claims are then a matter of updating one sheet, not rebuilding the whole design.

  • Dielines for cartons, sleeves, wraps and pouches
  • Compliant nutrition and ingredient panels
  • Changeable product overlays on a fixed identity base
  • Converter-ready files with bleed and trim marks

Print Collateral Systems

Collateral is the everyday proof of a brand: the card in a wallet, the letterhead on a quote, the folder that carries a proposal, the hang tag on a product. We design these pieces as one coordinated suite rather than a collection of one-offs, sharing a single grid, a shared margin set and a consistent type scale. When every piece is built from the same measurements, a new item drops into the system without a redesign.

A typical suite includes business cards, letterheads, second sheets, envelopes, folders, order pads, appointment cards, hang tags and swing tickets. We plan paper stocks and finishes as part of the concept, weighing cost against feel so a small maker can order a run that looks considered without overspending. Files are exported for both offset and short-run digital so the same suite can be printed at any scale.

  • Cards, letterheads, envelopes and folders
  • Order pads, forms and appointment cards
  • Hang tags, swing tickets and stickers
  • Stock and finish recommendations with cost notes

Signage and Wayfinding

A sign has one job: to be read correctly at a real distance by a real person, often while moving. We plan signage as a sequence, from the first glance at the street to the final room plaque, so each panel gives the right amount of information for its place in the journey. Type is sized for viewing distance, contrast is tested against the actual substrate, and the hierarchy stays calm even when the list of destinations is long.

The studio prepares exterior panels, window vinyl, directory boards, wall murals, interior room plaques and dimensional letters. We supply cut-ready vector art, mounting notes and a placement plan that a fabricator or sign shop can follow without guessing. For multi-tenant buildings and venues, we build a wayfinding ladder that a facility team can extend later without breaking the look.

  • Exterior panels, window vinyl and ACM boards
  • Directory boards and interior room plaques
  • Type sized to viewing distance and tested contrast
  • Cut-ready vector art with mounting and placement notes

Brand Guideline Books

A brand guideline book is the reference that keeps a team aligned when the studio is not in the room. We write and design it to be used, not admired: a clear index, plain instructions and visual examples that show the right and wrong way to apply the identity. It covers the logo rules, the type scale, the color formulas, the spacing system and the file naming convention.

Guidelines also carry the practical detail that prevents small mistakes from becoming expensive reprints. We document photography direction, icon style, acceptable color substitutions for different processes, and the correct treatment of partner logos and co-branded material. The book is delivered as a bound printed copy for the studio wall and a searchable digital version for daily use by anyone who touches the brand.

  • Logo rules with correct and incorrect examples
  • Type scales, spacing systems and color formulas
  • Photography, icon and co-branding direction
  • Printed copy plus a searchable digital edition

Refresh and Reprint Support

Brands live longer than any single print run, and the work of keeping them current is where a good overlay system pays off. When a product line changes, an address moves, a certification is added or a seasonal edition arrives, we update the relevant overlay rather than redrawing the brand. The result stays consistent because the underlying grid never moved.

This service is a standing relationship. We keep the filed system, the color formulas and the dielines on hand, so a reprint request becomes a short, predictable task instead of a new project. New sizes, new flavors, new staff titles and new contact details are pressed cleanly onto the existing art and returned press-ready, usually within a short turnaround window. It is the quiet labor that keeps a growing brand looking composed.

  • Overlay updates instead of full redraws
  • Filed color formulas, dielines and export settings
  • New sizes, flavors, claims and contact details
  • Short, predictable reprint turnaround

Process Overview

From bench review to reprint file

Whatever the service, the work moves through the same measured stages so nothing is assembled out of order.

01

Bench review and base sheet

We gather what you have, learn the product and the audience, and confirm the print and fabrication reality before a single line is drawn.

02

Directions under the loupe

We pin two or three identity directions side by side and test each against a card, a carton and a sign so the choice is grounded in use, not taste alone.

03

Overlay build

The chosen direction is layered with color, type and layout, with every element registered to one grid and one baseline.

04

Final art and trim

Crop marks, bleed and dielines are checked line by line, then exported as press-ready files with a proof set for your printer.

05

File and refresh

The system is filed with the studio so future reprints and seasonal changes are quick, consistent updates to a single overlay.

Andrew Beesley Design LLC opens its winter studio calendar for brand refresh projects.

Bring us a product, a shelf and a printer. We will bring the overlays, the loupe and the straightedge, and together we will set the whole system true.
